27 November 2018 – Brookfield Asset Management’s renewable power business today announced the launch of the Global Renewable Hub, an online guide for corporate energy buyers.
The Global Renewable Hub is a comprehensive online guide to global renewable power procurement. With deep insight into global power market dynamics, the site explains the structures used to procure green energy from power purchase agreements (PPAs) and green certificates to onsite wind turbines. The Global Renewable Hub demonstrates the benefits to businesses of shifting to green power and the role this can play in achieving sustainability objectives.
According to the International Renewable Energy Agency’s (IRENA) 2018 report ‘Corporate Sourcing of Renewables: Market and Industry Trends’, “roughly one in five corporations has committed to renewable electricity targets… while the world market for corporate sourcing of renewables in 2017 reached about 465 terawatt-hours, placing it close to France’s overall electricity demand.”
With the launch of the Global Renewable Hub, Brookfield is contributing its expertise as one of the largest owners and operators of, and investors in, renewable power assets globally. Through its long track record of working with corporate energy buyers to support their energy procurement needs and global commercial teams with in-depth local knowledge, Brookfield is committed to supporting companies on this journey.
Ruth Kent, Chief Operating Officer of Brookfield’s renewable power business said “Renewable power procurement is rapidly rising up the global corporate agenda, yet there is a lack of publicly available information about how global energy markets work and the different instruments through which green power can be procured. Brookfield Renewable’s global footprint and extensive experience of developing tailored corporate green solutions enables us to share this experience”.
