Traditionally linked more closely to oil prices, gas contract rates have fluctuated wildly over the past twelve months and threaten to do so again as global oil prices recover. Gas contract levels for UK organisations also reflect the level of risk customers are prepared to take in forward buying and how far ahead they want to commit to assured supplies.

Gas supplies are now going through major change as UK North Sea output dwindles and our dependence on piped supplies from Norway and Russia together with LNG shipments becomes overriding, locking us irretrievably into volatile world prices.
