Front month gas and power has increased during the week by 2.5 - 3% while front season Win '13 is up by 1% during the period. The increases are mainly due to a tightness in the power and gas supply arrangements. Norwegian gas facility have entered into a scheduled maintenance phase from now until the end of the first week in June with gas exports to Europe correspondingly reduced by 54 MCM.

Seasonal power and gas prices rose during the week by around 2% due in the main to the forecasted cold snap that we are presently enjoying. The near month prices of February and March were 1% higher than the figures above. All of this despite the fact that supplies are healthy, electrical interconnectors are in import mode and Storage gas and LNG stocks are above 80% full mark.

Seasonal gas and power prices rose and fell during the week but ended the period a net 2% up. The increase is mainly as a result of cooler weather forecasts for the end of the month and early winter. However, low gas imports through Langled and BBL (especially Thursday and Friday) and continued heavy exports through the Zeebrugge interconnector also played a significant role.

Power and Gas prices have been up and down during the week as conflicting economic news hits the front pages. However over the week a 1% fall in prices across the far and near curves is where the week's activity leaves us.The main driver here has been gloomy unemployment returns from the US.

Power and gas prices hardened during the week with Win'11 and the close months seeing a 1% rise over the period. Better economic news from the US appears to have reversed the trends of the previous week. The news that the US Federal Reserve would hold interest rates at near zero for a period of two year, gave stocks and commodities a boost and this was reflected into energy markets.

Seasonal power and gas prices have fallen during the week by a resounding 4% across the near and far curve. Clearly global economic concerns have worsened with regard to the US economy with some experts predicting a double dip ression. Europe's escalating dept has also impacted the situation in Spain and Italy and this has added to the bearish trend.

A sense of price stability hits the markets this week. Seasonal power and gas prices have remained steady during the week with approximately a 1% reduction on the front months and seasons and 0.5% reductions further out on the curve. Gas supplies from the North Sea and LNG facilities are healthy at the moment, although Langeled did experience a one day outage during the week.

Energy prices are up by 8-12% (power) and 10-14% (gas) from the beginning of the month. The early drivers in the month were associated with production constraints in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea while this week it appears to have been largly due to the purchasing activities of several large financial institutions taking positions in the market.

Proposals will cut red tape, speed up the reform process and allow consumer representatives to participate more actively Ofgem publishes today (Wednesday) final proposals resulting from the Code Governance Review to introduce a wide range of changes to the industry codes (the set of rules that underpin the gas and electricity industry in GB) that will: make the existing arrangements more transparent and accessible, increasing the scope for smaller players and consumer groups to participate; speed up and simplify code reform processes so that large scale and complex changes can be made more quickly; and reduce the regulatorÂ’s role in code modifications that have little or no customer impact, allowing the industry more self-governance in line with better regulation principles.

Electricity and Gas prices across the whole curve dropped by 1.3 - 2.6% and 4.0 - 5.0% respectively during the last week. The drops appears to have been driven by higher than normal ambient temperatures coupled with good gas and power supply margins throughout the period.

Power and Gas prices are on the fall again across the near and far curve following the rise reported on Monday of this week. The planned arrival of six LNG tankers into Milford Haven this week coupled with ambient temperatures above the seasonal norm appear to be the main drivers at the moment.

The market has seen an upturn in the last two days with gas and electricity prices rising by around 2% thus almost irradicating the reductions achieved last week. A reversal of temperature forecasts seems to be the main driving force as ambient temperatures for the first week in March are expected to drop back to near zero centigrade.
