Proposals will cut red tape, speed up the reform process and allow consumer representatives to participate more actively Ofgem publishes today (Wednesday) final proposals resulting from the Code Governance Review to introduce a wide range of changes to the industry codes (the set of rules that underpin the gas and electricity industry in GB) that will: make the existing arrangements more transparent and accessible, increasing the scope for smaller players and consumer groups to participate; speed up and simplify code reform processes so that large scale and complex changes can be made more quickly; and reduce the regulator’s role in code modifications that have little or no customer impact, allowing the industry more self-governance in line with better regulation principles.

Power and gas prices have seen upward movement during the last week with the near season gas up 4% while near season power is curtailed to around 0.5% increase (probably due to a falling coal prices).
Electricity and Gas prices across the whole curve dropped by 1.3 - 2.6% and 4.0 - 5.0% respectively during the last week. The drops appears to have been driven by higher than normal ambient temperatures coupled with good gas and power supply margins throughout the period.

The market has seen an upturn in the last two days with gas and electricity prices rising by around 2% thus almost irradicating the reductions achieved last week. A reversal of temperature forecasts seems to be the main driving force as ambient temperatures for the first week in March are expected to drop back to near zero centigrade.
